JV and Varsity Girl's Basketball

Hello to all Basketball Players,

I’d like to say how excited I am about the upcoming basketball season. I will be coaching both the JV and Varsity girls this year. Julie McAlhany will be assisting me as she has in the past. I have Mr. Buddy Hartzog, coach of the Varsity girls in years past coaching them to several State Championships, coming out to a few practices to assist with shooting. I am excited to see we have more girls signed up this year and look forward to the new girls coming from other schools to join our team. ☺

According to SCISA, we are allowed 12 summer practices. We cannot practice more than twice a week and the practices are limited to 1 ½ hours. Certain dates in July have been “closed” for summer practices. I have worked out the schedule below to allow both the JV and Varsity girls to get in their 12 practices. SCISA states these practices have to be voluntary in nature. I know summer is a busy time and you probably won’t be able to make all the practices, however, I will keep an attendance of who comes to each practice. This will allow me to see who is dedicated, who really wants to play, and who is excited about the opportunity to better their skills. Your attendance won’t play a factor in whether or not you make a team, but it might help me decide starting positions if it comes down to a tie between 2 players. Therefore, I highly encourage you to make an effort to be at as many practices as possible. In my opinion, effort and dedication go a long way!!

During the summer practices, I will be going over offenses and defensives that I will be implementing during the season. We will also focus on shooting, dribbling, free throws, moving with and without the ball, etc. We will not be “conditioning” and doing a lot of running during the June, July, and August practices. When school starts, I will compose another schedule that will run from the end of August through the end of September. These work-outs will include 3 players to 1 coach. During these times, we will focus on individual player needs. In October, we will begin conditioning 2 nights per week. This will be when we focus on getting in shape and include a lot of running. The first official practice will begin November 1, and we will begin daily practices from then on.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. My home number is 563-3314, cell 560-4833, and email fralix@bellsouth.net. I check email daily and that is the best way to reach me. Again, I look forward to working with each of you during the summer and am excited about the upcoming basketball season. If we want to have a winning team, we must dedicate ourselves to practices in an effort to be the best. I am willing, are you?
Sincerely,
Lynn Fralix
