The B-Team Christmas Tournament will be held on December 20-21.  Please come out and support our B-Teams and the Booster Club.

Varsity Player of the Week is Julianna McAlhany.  Julianna stepped up big for us this week on rebounds and scoring.  She pulled a double/double and is averaging 13.5 rebounds/game.  I'm expecting big things from her this year.

JV Player of the Week is Kindal Gray.  Kindal is getting better and better each week.  I an so proud of her for pulling her first ever double/double!  She is working hard and becoming a key player for us.

Varsity Girl's Basketball Player of the Week by Lynn Fralix

Tayler Barcomb is the Varisty Girl's Player of the Week.  Tayler as Senior Captain and leader of the team will be used this year in multiple roles on the court.  While her primary role is point guard,  she comes up big in scoring, rebounds and steals.  She is a key player to both our offense and defense.

Week of November 19th......

JV Girls
1) Madelyn Fender - As Captain, Madelyn has stepped up her leadership skills so far this year.  Against Patrick Henry, she played superb defensively throughout 4 quarters of play and an overtime coming up with 10 steals.  One steal was at a crucial point in overtime that gave us the ball and likely, the win as we scored to take the lead.  She added 4 points and 2 rebounds and took care of the ball against Patrick Henry's press.  She played with confidence and was aggressive with driving the ball to the hole.  I'm looking forward to that continued confidence from the Sophomore player so our younger girls can follow behind that leadership.

Varsity Girls
1)  Crystal Wilds - Crystal came out on fire shooting 53% and scoring 14 points against Patrick Henry.  As a captain, she stepped up her game showing good leadership skills.  She added 4 steals as she hustled with our press and did a great job of helping protect the ball against Patrick Henry's press.  I'm looking forward to her continued contribution to our offensive scoring as well as her defensive skills.

1) Cole Cleland - Cole scored 13 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals.

Clemson Wins the Clemson/Carolina Day contest !!!!

A total of $645.12 was collected for Relay for Life.  The Clemson flag will fly on our flagpole over the weekend !

The Interact Club will be hosting a Carolina/Clemson Gameday Fundraiser on Tuesday, November 20, 2012.  The winning flag will fly at the school for the game weekend.  The cost will be $2.00 to dress down in your best team attire.  All proceeds will go to benefit Relay For Life.

Middle School Drama Team Wins !

The Middle School Drama Team won the State Drama Festival competition with their play "Largon."  The play won a Superior rating.  Middle School Division awards went to David Beane, best actor award and Gabe Marchant and Andrew Faulling received an honorable mention award.
Cast members include:  David Beane, Andrew Faulling, Gabe Marchant, Madelyn Turner, Maggie Behie, Bryce Holmes, Maddison Trotter, Kelly Kizer and Ashlyn Lynch.  Co-directors were Rebecca Dantzler, DeeDee Hartzog and Chris Williams.

JV/Varsity Basketball Schedule Change

There has been a change in the JV/Varsity Basketball Schedule:
The Colleton Prep games originally scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 19th have been changed to Thursday, Dec. 6th.  These games will be played at Colleton Prep.

DA Fall Sports Award Program

The Fall Sports Award Program will be held on Monday, November 26th at 6:00.  All Junior High Football players, cheerleaders, JV and Varsity volleyball players, and Varsity football players and cheerleaders will be recognized.

Middle School Cell Phones Usage

We are having an issue with middle schoolers and cell phones.  The policy is that they should be off and away; however, we are finding evidence that they are using their phones in restrooms, at recess, and hiding them in pockets to use them during class.

I an effort to curtail this, we will be taking up cell phones in homeroom and giving them back at the end of the day.  They will be kept in the office and if they are needed the students can come to the office to use them.

Dorchester Academy's flag will be at half staff in memory of Caroline Walters, DA Class of 1998.  Caroline passed away Wednesday, October 24th from injuries sustained in an accident.  Our condolances go out to the Walter's family.

DA Class '82 Reunion

The Dorchester Academy Class of  '82 will have their 30th Reunion at DA in the school Conference Room at 6:30 pm on Friday, October 12th.  Please enter the school by the front door by the flag pole.  There will be a Meet & Greet with snacks followed by a tour of the school building.  Everyone is invited to attend the Varsity Homecoming football game starting at 7:00 pm.

Dorchester Academy will have Homecoming on Friday, October 12th.  The Homecoming Court will be introduced before the start of the game beginning at 7:00.  Homecoming Queen will be announced at half-time.  Please come out and be a part of the 2012 Homecoming Festivities.

Dorchester Academy will have an Open House on October 8 after the 6:00 PTO meeting.  Parents are invited to come to their child's classrooms to meet with the teachers.

Dress Down Day Wednesday, October 3rd

The Dorchester Academy service clubs will be having a dress down day on Wednesday, October 3, 2012.  The fee will be $5.00.  This means that Wednesday wear will not have to be worn and shirts will not have to be tucked in, but all other school dress code rules will apply.  All the proceeds will go to the following:

Fellowship of Christian Students:  The cost of shipping for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.  The $7.00 charge for each box includes shipping, a Bible, and a 6 week lesson plan.

Senior Recognition at Friday's Game

Senior Football Players and Cheerleaders will be recognized Friday, September 28th before the start of the ballgame. Parents need to be at the field by 6:45.  We will line up on the sidelines and start announcing Seniors and their parents at 7:00. Literary Meet Winners

Congratulations to Anna O'Cain for winning the Storytelling Competition, Trevor Canaday for placing 2nd in the Poetry Recitation Competition and to Zachery Bozard for placing 4th in Oral Interpretaion. Thank you to all who participated.

We also want to congratulate our Debate Team for winning their First Round. The members are Abbie West, Grace Neil, Daniel Fralix and Hannah Lutz.

Dorchester Academy will have a Relay for Life Team -Raiders in Search of a Cure !!! Please support our team by purchasing a luminary bag or T-Shirt.

The B-Team Basketball Teams will ride the bus to Patrick Henry on Wednesday, February 1st. The bus will leave at 2:45.

Friday DA vs Faith Christian Game Times

The DA vs Faith Christian Basketball Games on Friday, January 27th will start at 5:00 p.m. with the JV Girls followed by the JV Boys and then the Varsity Boys.

Student Government Meeting Tuesday, January 31st During Study Hall

Student Government will sponsor a Bake Sale on Wednesday, February 1st during lunch. All items will sell for $1.00.

B Team Baseball Practice

B-Team Baseball Players will practice Wednesday, January 25th at 4:30. They will throw and exercise for about an hour. Coach Peele would like to meet with parents after practice.

JV and Varsity Basketball players will have individual pictures taken on Thursday, January 12th.

B-Team/JV/Varsity Softball Meeting

Coach Alex wants to meet with all girls interested in playing B-Team, JV or Varsity Softball to meet in the cafeteria right after school on Monday, January 16th for a brief meeting.

Junior High/Varsity Football Meeting

All boys that played Junior High & Varsity Football this year will meet with Coach on Wednesday morning during Homeroom. He also wants to meet with those interested in playing next year. If you have NOT turned in your unifrom - you MUST bring it on Wednesday morning.

Bake Sale

The Student Government will sponsor a Bake Sale on Wednesday, January 11th. All members must bring a sweet. All items will sell for $1.00.

DA Sign Dedication

On January 22, 2012 the Dorchester Academy sign will be dedicated in memory of Madelyn Browning Knight . The dedication will be held at 3:30 p.m. in front of the school.
