Dorchester Academy will host Jr. Prom for grades 2-9 pn Saturday, April 26th in the Shuler Gymnasium.

Forms are being sent home, but must be returned on or before Thursday, April 10th in order to receive a prom t-shirt.

Spring Golf Tournament Saturday, April 5th

Our Spring Golf Tournament that was cancelled last Saturday due to inclement weather has been rescheduled for this Saturday, April 5th, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Country Club of St. George.  The tournament is a 4 person team Captain's Choice with a shotgun start.  For more information contact Dawn Weeks at 843-560-0103 or Tressa Sosebee at 843-560-0749.

Spring Pictures April 7th

Girl's State

Congratulations to Madelyn Fender and Chelsea Huff and alternates Annie Gentry and Laura Judy for being chosen for Girl's State. 

Booster Club Meeting Wednesday, April 9th 6:00 P.M.

Due to away baseball games on Monday and Tuesday of next week, the Booster Club will meet on Wednesday, April 9th at 6:00 in the Conference Room.  We would love to have a Standing Room Only Crowd.  Please sell and purchase your Steak Supper Tickets.  It will be held on Saturday, May 17th at the Utopia Club.  If you need tickets to sell, please see Beau Kennedy or a Booster Club member.

Football Signing For Coby Berry And Jordan Weathers

All Baseball and Softball Games Have Been Cancelled Today Due To Weather

High School Service Hours Project

Members of St. George UMC and Bethany UMC are meeting in the parking lot of St. George UMC at 8:30 am Saturday, March 8th for an Ice Storm Clean Up Day.  This clean up effort will help the homebound and physically disabled members of our community.  DA High School students can count these as service hours. If you would like to help or have any questions call Sammy Stephens (560-0054).

School Doors Open 7:30 A.M.

Please remember:  Teachers and staff are on duty in the mornings starting at 7:30.  Please do not leave your students until 7:30 when school doors will be opened.

Varsity Cheerleading Conditioning

Student Government Conference

The DA Student Government will be attending the S.C. Independent School Student Association Conference.  They will be leaving the school on Sunday, March 16th and will return on Tuesday, March 18th.  Currently, Annsley Judy holds a position on the Executive Board and we have Stokes Brownlee and Cole Cleland who will be running for offices this year.

Weightlifting Starts Monday, March 10th 3:00

Coach Myers wants to remind all football players of weightlifting that will begin on Monday, March 10th with him.  Weightlifting will be held on Mondays and Thursdays at 3:00.

JV and Varsity Boy's Basketball Teams Win Region Tournament

Congratulations to both our JV and Varsity Boy's Basketball teams, Coach Mark and Coach Thomas for their big wins over Palmetto Christian to win the region Tournament!!!

SCISA Region II-AA Tournament Schedule Change

The SCISA Region II-AA Tournament hosted by Dorchester Academy has been postponed to begin on Friday, February 14th and run through Tuesday, February 18th.  We will follow the same schedule that was sent out earlier, just moving everything back one day.  The tournament will begin with JV games on Friday, February 14th.

SCISA Reported Weather Cancellations

Due to the forecast of inclement weather, the Spelling Bee, the State Debate, and the Using Technology Efficiently Workshop have been postponed.

New dates for the Middle School Regional Quiz Bowls, the State Spelling Bee, the State Debate, and the Using Technology Efficiently Workshop have not yet been determined.

Congratulation to Saylor Judy

Congratulations to Saylor Judy, president of the Dorchester Academy 4H Club, on being selected as a delegate to attend 4H Legislative Day 2014.  Saylor was one of twelve 4H members from across the state selected to go. 4H Legislative Day is sponsored by the State 4H Teen Council.  Youth will have the opportunity to observe the Legislature and Senate in action, meet with the Commissioner of Agriculture, Senators, members from the House of Representatives and the Governor's Office.

DA To Host Region Basketball Tournament

Dorchester Academy will be hosting the 2014 Region Basketball Tournament for JV and Varsity.  The tournament will begin on Thursday, February 13th and run through Monday, February 17th including that Saturday.  We need all the HELP we can get.  If you are willing to help at the gate, concession stand, or supply a snack for our Coaches and Officials' Hospitality room, it would be much appreciated. We will be having 4 games each day with the first game starting at 3:30.  Please let the school, Penny, Coach Mark, Coach Anthony, Coach Murch or any Booster Club member know if you are willing to give your time.  Thank you in advance for supporting Dorchester Academy Athletics !!!

Dinner Theater Sunday, February 8th 6:30 P.M. Shuler Gym

The Dorchester Academy PTO is proud to announce the first Dinner Theater on Saturday, February 8th, 2014.  Shuler Gymnasium will be magically transformed into a dinner theater where guests will gather at beautifully decorated, candle-lit tables to watch an entertaining K4-12th grade production entitled, " A Journey Through Time."  Tickets are $20.00 per person; children 3 and under are admitted free.  (Student performers will not be participating in the meal.)  Doors will open at 6:30 for dinner and the show.  The best seating (near the stage) will be on first-come, first-served basis.  The menu for the evening will be chicken cordon bleu, yellow saffron rice, green beans, and dessert.

Tickets for this event will be sent home with report cards on Thursday, with the youngest child in each family.  If you need additional tickets, do not receive yours, or wish to order one, please contact the school office at 843-563-9511.

Ticket stubs and money should be turned in to the office on or before January 30th.  This is the 2nd Board Approved Fundraiser for 2013-2014 which counts towards your $300 family fundraiser fee.

Make sure to invite your family, friends, and neighbors to this one-of-kind show.  Let's make it a memorable night at the Academy!

Bring A Friend Day Monday, January 20th

Students in grades K4 - 12 are encouraged to Bring A Friend to school for the day.  Invited friends must be potential students whose parents may be interested in having them attend DA next year - they do not have to be in your grade to be invited.  We will have a guided tour for parents and students with information about our academics,  sports, clubs, college courses, etc.
Incentives:
  • Students: Each student that brings a friend will have their name entered into a drawing for an Apple ipad mini !!!
  • Teachers: The homeroom teacher whose students bring the most friends will receive a $50 Gift Certificate !!
  • Parents:  If your child refers a friend who attends DA in the 2014 - 2015 school year, a referral fee will be deducted from next year's tuition.
Guests must be registered with the office to attend.

Dorchester Academy Blood Drive In Honor Of Cameron Bates Berry

Dorchester Academy will host a Blood Drive in honor of Cameron Bates Berry on Wednesday, January 15th from 2pm to 7pm in the school cafeteria. Students 16 yrs. and older can donate blood with a parent's consent.
